Environmental protection and climate change
In this effort, GWODEO organized a training conducted by Jennifer Muldoon, who was working with Uganda Cooperative Alliances. During this training, 47 participants were trained in making tree nursery beds and how to plant trees for income generation and environmental protection. Also, the effects of climate change and how to avert climate change were discussed.
GWODEO, to avert climate change, also embarked on tree planting to generate income for the organization. We planted trees to demarcate boundaries in sugar plantations in Mayuge District. We also planted more trees along the banks of Lake Victoria and River Nile in Jinja District, to reduce encroachment on water banks and reduce soil erosion along those banks. Thus far, 1,100 trees have been planted, and they’re flourishing to this day.
